  • Replacing Windows? Transform the Look with a Bay or Bow Window

    8/27/2012 3:16 PM

If you’re upgrading your home’s windows with energy-efficient replacement windows, keep in mind that you can easily change the window type. You may have a fixed picture window or a run of double-hung windows. If you have these in a room where you’d like more natural light or a wider view of your yard, consider replacing them with a bay or bow window configuration. Bay windows are comprised of three panels - a fixed picture window in the middle flanked by venting windows on either side. You can choose what type of venting window to fit the style of your home – double-hung or casement are popular choices.

  • The True Benefits of Replacement Windows

    8/21/2012 1:42 PM

Many homeowners wait to research replacement windows until there are obvious indications of window failure. There are telltale signs – condensation and fogging glass, or rotted sills and frames. For some, the maintenance for older wood windows can become too much of a hassle. Many windows are stuck shut, whether from age or multiple coats of paint.  But there are other reasons to consider replacement windows in addition to problems that are visibly apparent. Homeowners need to research window options to ensure that your new replacement window purchase will add more comfort and enjoyment to your home.

  • Watch Out! Record Heat Can Drive Record Utility Bills

  • Bring The Outdoors IN With a New Garden Window!

    8/15/2012 1:04 PM

Adding a garden window to your home is an upgrade worth considering. Garden windows are designed like a miniature greenhouse - a small glass enclosure that extends out from an exterior wall of the house. Most are available with a shelf, allowing you to grow various plants as well as display decorative items. Because a garden window has four sides of glass, it allows more natural light to enter the room. This feature also gives you a wider view of your yard outside and makes your room appear larger. Many garden windows have casement windows on either side that crank open. This increases airflow and cross-ventilation - an added bonus if you have one in the kitchen and want to dissipate unwanted cooking smells.

  • Summer Heat and Window Ratings

    8/3/2012 1:21 PM

A window is more than a frame with glass panes. Today’s replacement windows are designed and manufactured using advanced technology. Research and development are producing windows that are more energy efficient than those installed even a few years ago.    You can tell almost everything you need to know about a window's performance by looking at its NFRC ratings. Adopted by the National Fenestration Rating Council in 1998, window manufacturers who are concerned about energy efficiency voluntarily go through NFRC testing to obtain the performance ratings. If a window does not have NFRC data, chances are you're not dealing with a reputable manufacturer.
