When you decide to upgrade your home with replacement windows, you have many choices available. You need to decide if you want to replace your old window with a similar style, or change the style to give your home a facelift, both inside and out. Basic window types available include: Single hung – only the bottom sash moves up and down, while the upper sash remains fixed. Double hung – both the top and bottom sashes move; many have a tilt-in feature for easier cleaning. Slider – windows open side to side; allow maximum visible light when closed and maximum ventilation when opened. Casement – windows that swing open to the sides fully for ventilation; can be installed singly or in combination to build a bay window. Awning – windows that swing out from the bottom; good ventilation while keeping rain out. Hopper – windows that swing in at the top; often used for basement light and ventilation. You’ve been hearing about it everywhere. The federal government is offering tax credits to homeowners who replace their old windows. But do your homework – not every window qualifies. “The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act” allows you to claim up to $1,500 on your tax return for replacing your windows with energy-efficient windows – those that achieve ENERGY STAR certification and meet minimum efficiency requirements. The replacement windows must have a U-factor of 0.30 or less. U-factor measures how well a window prevents heat from escaping from your home. To qualify for the tax credit, the window must also have a Solar Heat Gain Coefficient (SHGC) of 0.30 or lower. The lower a window's SHGC, the less solar heat it transmits. All of Thompson Creek’s replacement windows exceed these minimum requirements, and are manufactured, installed and serviced locally from our factory in Landover, Maryland. The tax credit is 30% of the amount paid, up to $1,500. The tax credit is for the cost of the windows only and does not include installation costs. To claim your full credit, you must purchase and install your replacement windows by December 31, 2010. You have to include your receipt and the window performance certification with your 2010 tax return documents.

The driving force behind how every Thompson Creek employee performs their job is the goal of total customer satisfaction. Being able to measure that satisfaction through dedicated surveying of every contact – whether they end up purchasing from us or not – gives us a very clear picture of where our strengths are and what areas we can target for improvement. Customers are contacted by phone and email and asked to complete a detailed questionnaire. We have built a method of survey results delivery into our internal systems. Once a survey is completed, results are immediately delivered via email to key executives within the company. We also have a dedicated marketing staff member who reviews each survey in detail, forwarding them on to the proper department if follow up is needed. The project manager contacts the customer within 24 hours for resolution and then reports the results back to marketing support with the resolution, which is entered into the database. Management reviews the survey results on a regular basis. All of this attention to each and every comment, even though not 100% of the problems can be solved, ensures that customers feel they have been heard.
